Dentists ........

Started by: tonker (27953)

............ in Ashton in Makerfield.

I don't know the full story yet, but it goes like this .....

My lad has got a letter off a dentist he goes to in Bryn. It tells him that, to remain on their books as a patient, he must pay a subscription of £14.50 a month.

I'm wondering if any of you have come across this, or are members of the same dentist?
Maybe this is 'the norm.' nowadays, or is it the start of a new system?

Whichever way t'cat jumps, them men from o'er t'watter won't be having to pay £14.50 a month and they'll get seen to before we will !

Tonks I am with the Bryn dentist and they have lost 5 dentists in the last 12 months I lost a filling in March and unless I am prepared to pay the £14-50 per month I will not get the filling seen to. Basically they don't want NHS only private patients.

I'm with the dentist on Standishgate, I go once a year for a checkup.

I'm thinking it has summut to do with the boat people because, The last time I was in my dentists, There was a full family of' new comers' and the male adult was the spokeman for them and the only words he knew was

" No pay, We no pay" The receptionist asked, " whats your name Sir" and all he could say was, " no pay, we no pay "

that,s the standard price for a check-up . the dentist in bryn st is still half under the NHS & the other half private . there,s no charge if your a NHS patient as far as i know . if they are charging a fee just to be on their books it looks like a rip off maybe because there,s not many dentists about ? .

Tonker, I was at Bryn Street dentist from early 90's. The dentist there was amazing. I hadn't been in a while (18 months?)as i had been working away for long periods like i do. So in Sept 2021 I phoned up for usual check up and and got an arrogant woman receptionist who demanded my credit card details with immediate sexed up talk along lines of 'you haven't attended in so long you need a full in depth examination'. (in other words the same usual £30 check up with x rays now became £118 charged to my credit card). 5 Mins later I realised the reception woman had hooked me. I called em back and cancelled and never went back. . On topic, closest dentist to me today , even the teeth pulling fella himself was hell bent on getting me to sign up for monthly a direct debit plan and less interested in looking at my teeth. I won't go back there either. I don't have a rip off direct debit to the local chiropodist in case i get a sore toe nor a DD to a chiropractor. 4 days ago i found a belting dentist who doesn't demand any subscription in lancashire.....Cost was £30 for full checkup with xrays and my first vist.

In me lifetime I have had some awful shithouse dentists, from Browns in Standishgate in the 1960s to an evil one on Pemberton, I am sure they were psychopaths, they gave me a phobia about dentists

Brown certainly managed to acquire an appalling reputation. You are not the first to air your experience of that dentists on here.

I have twice had dental treatments provided by hospital departments. In both cases, it was massively superior to what I have experienced at dental practices.

(I have had both really good and really crap dentists)

I got a letter off Bryn today and I left them 4 years ago when they messed me about but, they seem to think I'll take up their subscription scheme

So that £174 a year, gets yoo two check ups and for xrays ?

If you need any fillings etc you will have to pay the usual arm and a leg charges ?

The NHS charges for Band 3 have gone up from £223 in 2016 to £306 in 2023.

Were local dentists reluctant to treat kids? How come so many of us ended up being treated at Brown's? I went there, but the adults in my family did not get their teeth fixed at Brown's.

I can vaguely remember there being a dentist at the side of the police station on Old Road which mainly dealt with kids

Yes, I went there also.

It was the school dental clinic.

Was in The Old Manse.

I think I was too old to use their facility by time of being at secondary school, hence Brown

TTS, for a while I went to the Dentist near the Carnegie Library, his name was Elliot Radam, he was one of the old school knee in your chest pliers in your mouth style Dentist. Never forgot the name, put me off going to the Dentist for a while.
